And Advocacy Service

People experiencing mental distress can also find it hard to get their points-of-view across to those responsible for providing them with essential services. Standing up for yourself can be hard, especially if you are on a lot of medication or experiencing distressing symptoms. If you would like advocacy support with members of your care team, there are two types of advocacy we can provide. For anyone experiencing mental distress, we can provide basic advocacy. Our team of paid staff and trained volunteers can give you information about your rights, and help you make 'phone calls or write letters. If you are experiencing a 'severe and enduring' mental illness we can often provide a higher level of support (for example by accompanying you to meetings). You can contact an advocate by calling 01865 728981, by visiting a drop-in (click here for a list) or by e-mail. We also regularly visit most adult psychiatric wards in Oxfordshire (click here for a list). |
